PH balancers

PH balancers are required to increase or decrease the pH of your swimming pool. The chemicals below can both raise or lower the pH of the water.

pH Balancers

 

The pH scale measures from 0 to 14 and measures the acidity or alkalinity of the water. A pH of less than 7 means the water is acidic, a reading above 7 means the water is alkaline and a pH of 7 is neutral. Ideally the pH for swimming pools is between 7.2 and 7.6. Having the water slightly alkaline means that the pool is more comfortable for swimmers and the equipment is protected from the corrosive water.

Effects of having an incorrect pH level:

Too acidic

  • The water is corrosive and will damage the pool equipment
  • The swimmers may have skin and eye irritation
  • The surface of the pool can become eroded and stained
  • Chlorine is used up more quickly

 

Too alkaline

  • The water becomes cloudy
  • The swimmers skin can become dry
  • The chlorine becomes less effective
  • Filter clarification
  • Scale formation can form

 

To correct the pH of the swimming pool, use Blue Horizons pH Plus to increase the pH level or Blue Horizons pH Minus to decrease the pH level.
